
Lappan Added to Checkers Front Office

CHARLOTTE, NC- The Charlotte Checkers have named Mike Lappan as director of public and media relations/youth hockey coordinator, COO Tera Black announced today.
As the director of the media relations department Lappan will be responsible for creating strategies that will be increase the visibility of the Checkers in the Charlotte marketplace. Additionally, he will be responsible for maintaining the news- and hockey-related sections of the Checkers Website. He will manage all of the team's statistical data and will compose and release all team related news.
As the club's youth hockey liaison, Lappan will be responsible for establishing and maintaining positive, continuous relationships with the youth and adult hockey community of Charlotte. He will create and oversee programs that will utilize the Checkers home games as a forum to promote and grow the game of hockey.
The 29-year old native of Levack, Ontario joins the Checkers with an extensive hockey background. From 2006-2008, Lappan was the coordinator of hockey operations for the ECHL where he was responsible for the organization of team rosters, the daily monitoring of contracts and salary cap while also overseeing transactions, including trades, waivers, recalls and injuries.
Lappan also worked with Black as an account executive for the San Diego Gulls, formerly of the ECHL, during the 2005-06 season. He was responsible for season and group ticket sales, coordinating fundraisers and coaching youth hockey. Additionally, he was a communications intern for the San Diego Gulls in 2003 and the American Hockey League's Hamilton Bulldogs in 2004. He holds a bachelor's degree in commerce/sports administration from Laurentian University.

The Checkers are getting ready for their 17th season of play as a member of the ECHL. In the team's 16-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 12 times including five consecutive playoff appearances to date.
