Montreal, Apr. 5, 2006 - Running back Ãric Lapointe has announced his decision to remain with the Alouettes for the 2006 season, signing for one year plus an option.
"I am passionate about football and I'm lucky enough to get to play in my hometown," said Lapointe, who is excited to continue with his career in Montreal. "The Alouettes are a winning team and I am proud to be part of this organization."
Head Coach Don Matthews was very happy to find out he'll be able to count on Lapointe for the 2006 season. "Ãric is a warrior," Matthews said. "We are thrilled that Ãric has chosen to return and to help our team reach our ultimate goal, that of bringing the Grey Cup back to Montreal."
Lapointe had one of the best games of his career in the Scotiabank East Championship last season, with three touchdowns and 112 yards on 15 carries in the second half alone. Lapointe had another great performance in the Grey Cup game scoring twice and gaining 46 yards on 11 carries.
Drafted in the third round (20th overall) by the Edmonton Eskimos in 1999, Lapointe broke into the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats that year, winning his first Grey Cup. He was traded to the Toronto Argonauts in 2000 before joining the Alouettes in February 2001. Lapointe, 31, will play his sixth season with the Alouettes.
