Macon Mayhem News Release
MACON, GA - The Macon Mayhem took to the ice in brand-new jerseys for the second half and perhaps felt like a brand-new team ready to climb up the standings as they welcomed in the Pensacola Ice Flyers.
The Ice Flyers would capture the early momentum as Malik Johnson and Brett Mecrones would each tally to make it a quick 2-goal Ice Flyers advantage. As fate would have it, that would be all the scoring that Pensacola would have. Macon's Alex Laplante would open the scoring for the home side with a shot off the post and in on the powerplay. Michael McChesney would spring in all alone just a minute and a half later to tie the game for Macon heading into the break.
Macon's special teams would dominate the second frame thanks to some excellent "quarterbacking" from Jarret Kup, who had three assists on the night. Tommy Munichiello would find Alex Laplante on the back door of Riley Morris to grab another Mayhem powerplay goal and the lead. McChesney would then double the Mayhem advantage with a deflected shot from Kup on the powerplay to force a Pensacola goalie change. Sacha Roy would make a tremendous play on the penalty kill for Macon. Roy would close out the shooting lane on the defensive end before hammering home a rebound on the breakaway for Macon's first shorthanded goal of the year and Roy's first goal as a member of the Mayhem. Macon would hold that 5-2 lead into the final intermission.
Macon would put the clamps on in the third period to hold Pensacola off the scoreboard. Macon would kill off one penalty and lock down on a 5-3 penalty kill to close out the night. Alex Laplante would pocket an empty netter to cap off the hat trick and a 6-2 Mayhem win.
Jimmy Poreda would be tremendous after settling in. He would stop 26 of 28 shots en route to the win.
Macon will head to North Carolina tomorrow night for a matchup with the Fayetteville Marksmen. They'll return to home ice next weekend for a rematch with the Marksmen on The Price is Right Night and The Dark Knight Night on Friday and Saturday. Tickets start at just $15 so come join in on the fun. For tickets or more information, visit maconmayhem.com or call us at 478-803-1592.
