Maine Celtics News Release
PORTLAND, ME - Marcus Landry scored a game-high 34 points for the Red Claws (27-17) in their 118-107 win at home over the Springfield Armor (7-36). The Boston Celtics prospect also grabbed five boards in the game while making eight of ten shots from beyond the arc, a new team record. Maine as a team shot over 58% from three-point range on 14-of-24 shooting.
With an 81-78 advantage at the end of the third quarter, the Red Claws opened the fourth with a 9-2 run to take a ten-point lead (90-80). Springfield was unable to come within five points of the lead the rest of the way as Maine's hot shooting continued.
Paul Davis scored 19 points while pulling down seven boards and blocking three shots as teammate Morris Almond contributed with 16 points.
Noel Felix led Springfield with 20 points while grabbing five rebounds in his first game against his former team since being traded earlier this season. Teammates Justin Hawkins and Dula Jalloh each contributed 17 points in the losing effort.
The Red Claws left immediately following the game to catch a 5:30 PM flight. The team will fly to Chicago and then Minneapolis before catching a bus to Bismarck, ND. They are scheduled to arrive at 5:30 AM Monday morning and will take on the Wizards tomorrow night at 8:00 PM for the first of four road games next week. Springfield will head out to Austin to take on the Toros on Tuesday at 8:30 PM.
LOOBY TAKES BLOCKED SHOT LEAD: Red Claws center Kurt Looby and Skyforce center Greg Stiemsa are neck-and-neck in the race for the all-time single season blocked shot mark in the NBA D-League. Through today's game, Looby has 142 blocks while Stiemsma has 140. Rod Benson of Reno is third with just 76. Both Looby and Stiemsman have already exceeded the previous mark of 133 set by Keith Closs of Tulsa set in 2007-08. Looby entered the season ranked #2 all-time with his 127 as a rookie last season.
RED CLAWS CONTINUE PLAYOFF PUSH: Only two teams currently out of the playoff picture can still catch the Red Claws, Reno (21 wins, 7 games remaining) and Idaho (22 wins, 6 games remaining), making the Red Claws magic number just two games to clinch a playoff berth. Maine will travel to Reno for two games next week. The Red Claws continue to edge closer to a pair of league marks for expansion teams. Only two expansion teams in NBA D-League history have ever made the playoffs, the Fort Worth Flyers (2005-06) and the Erie BayHawks (2008-09). The mark for wins by an expansion team in their first season is 28, set by Fort Worth in 2005-06.
