Lancers Win Wild One in Waterloo

Ben Arnt scored two goals and added an assist for the Lancers, who rallied in the third period to defeat the Black Hawks in Waterloo 6-5, on Saturday, February 9th.

Arnt's second goal was the game-winner and came on the power play, as Jordan Samuels-Thomas was serving a major elbowing penalty for his hit on Jake Hauswirth at 10:23 of the frame. It was the second goal of the power play, as Patrick Wiercioch ripped a blast from inside the blue line that beat goaltender Matt DiGirolamo (13-8-4) at 11:29, followed by Arnt's goal just 14 seconds later.

Arnt also assisted on a goal from Joe Diamond, whose red-lighter at 11:46 of the first period tied the contest at 3-3 at the first intermission.

Hauswirth and Travis Novak scored a goal and added an assist in the victory for the Lancers. Matt Thurber and Chris Hepp chipped in with a pair of helpers.

Drew Palmisano won his 40th career victory in goal for the Lancers, replacing starter Shane Madolora after he was tagged for two goals in the first 5:13 of the game. Palmisano made 23 saves and allowed three goals as his season improved to 20-6-2.

The teams were tied at 3-3 after one period, but Waterloo took a 5-3 lead in the second period, before Jake Hauswirth notched his sixth goal of the year with 2.6 seconds remaining in the session to get the Lancers within 5-4 at the second intermission.

Waterloo was 3-for-10 in a penalty-marred contest, while the Lancers were 2-for-6. Omaha was charged with 39 minutes in penalties, while the Black Hawks were given 54 penalty minutes for the contest.

With the win, the Lancers won their 29th game of the season (29-9-3) and took a 12-point lead in USHL West Division standings over Sioux City. They remain one point behind Indiana in the race for the regular season Anderson Cup championship.
