OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) are pleased to announce the hiring of Mike Aikens as Assistant Coach for the 2010-2011 season. Aikens, an assistant coach previously with the Lancers from 1995-1998, has been coaching with the Russell Stover Hockey program for each of the past two seasons.

"We're extremely excited to have Mike rejoin the Lancers," said Head Coach/GM Bliss Littler. "He's experienced to the USHL and is a longtime veteran of junior hockey. He's got a tremendous eye for talent and brings tons of experience and prior success here to Omaha."

After serving as a student assistant at the University of Denver, Aikens began his coaching career here in Omaha where he served as an assistant with the Lancers beginning in 1995. After three seasons, he landed his first head coaching position with the Rochester (MN) Mustangs (USHL). After one season in Rochester, Aikens remained in the USHL serving as Assistant Coach for both the Fargo-Moorhead Ice Sharks (1999-2000) and Chicago Steel (2000-2001). Aikens then shifted to the North American Hockey League (NAHL) where he guided the Billings Bulls over the next four seasons to an impressive 150-59-15 overall record and two Borne Cup championships. Prior to coaching the Russell Stover Hockey program, Aikens spent one season in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) where he served as Head Coach of the Williams Lake Timberwolves during the 2005-06 season.
