Omaha Lancers News Release

FARGO, ND - The Omaha Lancers entered the third period on Friday trailing the Fargo Force by a score of 2-1, but rallied with three third period goals, to claim a 4-2 victory at Scheels Arena. With the win, the Lancers improved to 14-3-1 overall this season and with 29 points, remain alone in first place in the Western Conference and overall USHL standings.

After a scoreless first period, Omaha broke the ice on the power-play at 12:04 of the middle frame when Jimmy Schuldt wired home his third goal of the season from the center point on feeds from Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson and Ryan Tait. Fargo manufactured a rapid-fire response, however, as Frederik Tiffels tied the game at one just 28 seconds later at even strength and an Andrew McDoland redirect at 17:00 of the second delivered the Force a 2-1 edge.

The Lancers' resolve was tested through a rocky few minutes to open the final period, but a Tyler Vesel power-play tally, the Nebraska-Omaha recruit's league-leading 15th goal of the season, tied the game at 8:09 thanks to a cerebral setup from Steven Johnson and Jake Randolph. Just under two minutes later, future Union College Dutchman Tyler Hynes pumped home a shorthanded score in transition to deliver the Lancers the lead with Johnson and Omaha captain Tucker Poolman registering assists. A Jake Randolph empty-netter in the game's final minute iced things for Omaha, as Vesel and Johnson picked up helpers on the insurance marker that established the Lancers' final margin of victory at 4-2.

The Lancers were extremely strong on specialty teams on Friday, going 2/5 on the power-play while shutting down Fargo's extra-man unit on each of the five chances it encountered. Rookie Lancers goaltender Hayden Hawkey improved to a perfect 5-0-0 on the season with the win as the Parker, Colorado native made 22 saves on Friday, running the Lancers' record in the season series vs. Fargo to 2-0-0 through the first two of six head-to-head meetings this year.

Next up for the Lancers, it's a Saturday showdown at Ralston Arena vs. the Indiana Ice with the opening faceoff set for 7:05 pm.
