Indiana Ice News Release

The Indiana Ice skated into Sioux Falls Arena looking for a victory but instead encountered a herd of frustration as they opened their two-game road trip with a 5-4 loss to the Stampede.

Scott Conway, Denis Smirnov, Michael Preston and Tyler Andrew all scored for the Ice while Aidan Muir, Jason Salvaggio and Brian Pinho recorded assists in the contest.

Indiana got on the scoreboard first thanks to Scott Conway. Indy's leading scorer found the back of the net unassisted at 14:32 for his tenth goal of the season.

Sioux Falls put a damper on the Ice's early lead by notching two goals near the close of the first frame. Stampede forward C.J. Franklin took advantage of a slashing penalty against Indiana and tied things up while a shot by Tony Calderone gave the home team a 2-1 lead going into the second period.

The Ice started things off with a goal again in the second period. Denis Smirnov fired the puck past Sioux Falls goaltender David Jacobson less than a minute into the period to bring Indiana even with the home team. Aidan Muir earned helper's credit on the goal.

Momentum swung back in favor of the home team, who retook the lead 3:46 into the second period. C.J. Franklin potted the goal for Sioux Falls.

Play turned rough toward the end of the second frame when Indy's Michael Preston got into a scuffle with Sioux Falls d-man Joe Schuldt. Both players received minor penalties for their involvement and finished the second stanza in the locker room.

The final frame of the contest began with an offensive showing by Sioux Falls. Goals by Zeb Knutson and Griffen Molino gave the Stampede a 5-2 lead halfway through the third period.

Indiana staged a late-game rally to pull within one point of the home team. Preston found the back of the net with help from Salvaggio at 10:55 to bring the Ice within two. Andrew got the puck from Pinho and fired with six seconds left to play, finalizing the score at 5-4 in favor of Sioux Falls.

Indiana finishes their road trip Saturday night against the Omaha Lancers before returning home to Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Nov. 27th to host the Youngstown Phantoms.
