Omaha Lancers News Release
RALSTON, NE - In a pre-Thanksgiving Wednesday trip to Buccaneer Arena in Des Moines, Iowa, the Omaha Lancers took an all-hands-on-deck approach, riding goals from five different players to a 5-2 victory over the Des Moines Buccaneers. With the win, the Lancers improved to 15-3-2 on the season and with 32 points, remain alone atop the Western Conference and overall USHL standings.
After the near-entirety of the first period slid by scoreless, Tucker Poolman put the Lancers up 1-0 in the frame's final second, beating the buzzer with just seven tenths of a second left on the game clock. The goal, a laser-like, center-point one-timer, set up by a crystal-clean offensive zone faceoff win by Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson, was Poolman's sixth of the season and fourth of the year on the power-play.
In the second, the Lancers picked up right where they left off, as Tyler Vesel made it 2-0 Omaha just 21 seconds into the frame with his league-leading 16th goal of the season. After a quick Des Moines response at 3:08 from Buccaneer captain Danny Elser, Tyler Hynes pushed the Omaha edge to 3-1 just shy of the mid-way mark of regulation on an opportunistic feed from Forsbacka-Karlsson, a goal that proved to be the game-winner. Lancers goaltender Cole Bruns preserved the advantage at 10:36, denying leading Des Moines scorer Tanner Karty on a penalty-shot at 10:36 before a Forsbacka-Karlsson goal five minutes later, the Stockholm, Sweden native's third point of the night, made it 4-1 Lancers heading into the third.
A rebound put-back at 4:41 for Omaha native Gage Hough, his tenth of the season, was set up by Jake Randolph and Vesel with the marker allowing Randolph to extend his league-wide season long point streak to 14 games. A late Marcel Godbout deflection drew the Buccaneers within three at 7:37 but no more offense was there to be found on Friday, as the Lancers clamped down in the waning minutes and preserved a 5-2 victory.
Next up for the Lancers, it's a Friday showdown with the Tri-City Storm with the opening faceoff set for 7:30 pm at Viaero Event Center in Kearney, Nebraska. Full coverage of Friday's game begins with the "Valpak Pregame Show" at 7:15 pm on the Lancers' flagship station, "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
