Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
Lincoln, NE-The Stampede got goals from Zeb Knutson, C.J. Franklin and Chad Duchesne while David Jacobson earned his second shutout in three games stopping all 35 shots in goal in a 3-0 victory over the Stars Wednesday at the Ice Box. Jacobson shutdown the Stars offense all night to help push the Herd's win streak to four games. The win improved the Herd's record to 14-5-2 on the year and kept them just two points behind Omaha for first place in the West.
The Stampede survived some flurries in front of the net in the first period against the Stars and were outshot 13-8, but remained tied 0-0 heading into the second period. David Jacobson was solid from the opening faceoff and made several pointblank saves to keep the Stars off the board.
In the second, the Stampede broke through on the powerplay and took advantage of a 5-on-3 on a beautiful goal from Zeb Knutson. Dennis Kravchenko took the puck from the left point and slid the puck into the right circle to Bo Pellah who quickly sent the puck back over to the left circle where Knutson one-timed it past Lincoln netminder Michael Bitzer to give the Stampede a 1-0 advantage. It would stay that way throughout the period though the Stars nearly scored in the final minute as they again put pressure on David Jacobson, but were shutdown and the Herd took a 1-0 lead into the third period. Shots were even 10-10 in shots.
In the third, the Stampede found themselves on the power play once again and once again they would take advantage. Dennis Kravchenko sent a pass through the slot to C.J. Franklin who tapped the puck through the pads of Bitzer to give the Stampede a 2-0 edge. The Herd put the game away for good at 9:39 on a goal from Chad Duchesne. Dakota Joshua and Keith Burchett set up Duchesne in the high slot who blasted a shot through traffic and into the upper right hand corner of the net, just underneath the crossbar to make it 3-0 Sioux Falls. The Herd controlled play for the final 10 minutes to skate out of Lincoln with a 3-0 victory.
The Stampede finished the night 2-for-4 on the powerplay and were once again perfect on the penalty kill at 5-for-5. Sioux Falls has now killed off 27 consecutive penalties over the last five games. Lincoln outshot the Stampede 35-25 on the night.
