Lancers Show More Intensity, But Fall to Lincoln Back-To-Back Nights

OMAHA, NE. - After falling by a score of 8-1 in Lincoln last night (4/8) the Lancers took on the Stars again in Omaha as they were looking to take two wins in the three game weekend.
The first period consisted of two goals from the Stars as Aiden Thompson smacked home a one-timer off a pass from Mason Marcellus that went over the glove hand of Omaha goaltender, Kevin Pasche.
Three minutes later Lucas Wahlin improved his scoring streak to ten games as he redirected a shot from Thompson past Pasche through traffic, as this led the Stars to the first intermission with a 2-0 lead.
The Lancers were drastically outplayed in the first period as the shot count was 15-5 in favor of the Stars.
The Lancers came out in the first half of the second period and knotted things up at two goals apiece.
It started 4:27 into the period when Alex Bump picked up a loose puck and carried it in on a breakaway, leading to a shot that beat Lincoln net minder, Cameron Whitehead through the legs, making it a 2-1 game.
Shortly after, nine minutes in to the period, Frank D'Ancona picked up an unassisted goal himself.
After laying a perfect bodycheck in his defensive zone, he managed to scoop up a loose puck, carry it into the attacking zone and place a perfect wrist shot over the blocker of Whitehead to knot things up, 2-2.
It only took 57 seconds for Lincoln to retake the lead as Jo Lemay came in on a fast break and beat Pasche up high before being sent through the net by Kennedy O'Connor. Making it a 3-2 game with Lincoln ahead.
The Stars reclaimed their two goal lead with just 2:16 left in the second period off a goal form Gleb Veremyev that he banged home to head into the second break with the 4-2 lead.
The third period was kicked off by Lincoln stretching their lead to three goals as Dalton Norris netted shot through traffic with Patrick Raftery on the assist to make it a 5-2 just 2:27 into the period.
Six minutes later, Alex Bump picked up his second goal of the night off a wrist shot after snagging feeds from Nate Benoit and Michael Cameron to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Shortly after that goal was scored, O'Connor got called for a controversial head contact penalty, leading to a two minute penalty kill for Omaha.
1:59 later, with just second left in O'Connor's penalty, the Stars struck again.
This time it was Mason Marcellus with his tenth goal of the season off a feed from Carter Schade. Another shot through traffic that beat Pasche glove side. Making it a 6-3 game.
The only other goal scored was a short handed empty netter by Noah Laba with 1:20 left in the game, sealing a 7-3 win for the Stars.
With the Fargo Force falling to Des Moines, and Waterloo taking down Sioux Falls, the Force and Black Hawks are now locked in fifth place in the west.
Waterloo, with only four games left, have no chance of catching the Lancers who currently sit in fourth place, still hanging onto home ice advantage.
Fargo however has five games left, meaning if Fargo wins out, and the Lancers fall in the rest of their games in regulation, Fargo will have a chance at stealing home ice if they win the tie breaker which is ROW (Regulation and Overtime Wins). So the Lancers simply need just one point, or a regulation, overtime or shootout loss from Fargo within the next two weeks.
The Lancers will be back in action on Friday, April 15th as they will host the Tri-City Storm. Puck is set to drop at 7:05PM CST, and that game can be caught on HockeyTV and Mixlr.
