Three goals in the third period insured a rebound back to the win column for the Omaha Lancers, handing Sioux City a 5-2 defeat before 3,197 fans at the Mid America Center on Friday, January 12th.

Jack Downing scored his first goal as a Lancer in the victory, followed by goals from Brett Bruneteau, Robby Dee, Mark Olver and Keir Ross. Meanwhile, Drew Palmisano posted his eighth win in goal, his seventh as a Lancer goalie.

Downing opened the scoring with a drive from the right side that surprised Sioux City goalie Jerry Kuhn, resulting in a 1-0 lead on the unassisted goal at the 12:32 mark of the first period.

Sioux City then scored once in the first period and one more in the second for a 2-1 lead, but Bruneteau then deflected a play from Will O'Neill for his eighth goal of the year at 18:06 of the second period and a 2-2 tie after forty minutes of play.

The third period belonged to the Lancers from the start, as Dee scored the eventual game-winning goal on the power play, assisted by Andrew Conboy and Bruneteau at 42 seconds of the final frame for a 3-2 Lancer lead.

Mark Olver followed with an unassisted goal at 11:55, and Ross finished the scoring with a goal just 20 seconds later at 12:15, assisted by Conboy for the final score of 5-2.

The Lancers out shot the Musketeers 38-26 for the game, including 14 shots in the first and third periods, while holding Sioux City to just six shots on goal in the final session. In the power play department, the Lancers were 1-for-9 and Sioux City was held scoreless in eight power play chances. The Lancers took 11 penalties for 22 minutes, while the Musketeers were called 12 times for 24 minutes.

Drew Palmisano (8-7-3, 7-1-0 with Omaha), stopped 24 shots in the victory, while Sioux City's Kuhn was 33 of 38 in the crease.

With the win, the Lancers moved into a third-place tie with the idle Tri-City Storm and are two points behind second place Des Moines. Sioux City saw their lead in the West Division standings shrink to six points in front of Des Moines.

The Lancers' season record is now 16-12-2 with seven of the wins coming in the last eight games, dating back to December 15th.
