Omaha Lancers News Release
OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) return home tomorrow to the Omaha Civic Auditorium after completing the league's longest road trip of the 2009-2010 regular season. Omaha (35-12-5, 77 Pts.) went 6-0-2 on its recent eight-game odyssey and returns home having collected 14 of a possible 16 standings points while away from home. The recent swing completed the Lancers' road portion of their regular season schedule capping a 21-5-4 record away from the Civic Auditorium this season. With 21 road victories, Omaha has posted the most wins away from home since the Sioux Falls Stampede collected 22 road victories during the 2005-06 season. The 21 wins away from home are also the most road victories by any Lancers team over the last eight seasons.
And so, after going 30 consecutive days without a game in their home arena, the Lancers reward for returning to the Civic Auditorium is a date Wednesday evening with the second place team in the West Division, the Fargo Force. Fargo (34-13-5, 73 Pts.) enters USHL action this week just four standings points back of Omaha for the top spot in the West and is 4-0 this season against the Lancers. In fact, Omaha has dropped seven consecutive meetings with the Force dating back to last season's opening round loss in the Clark Cup playoffs. Fargo's Matt Leitner leads all scorers in the season series having tallied nine points (5 goals, 4 assists) in 12 periods against the Lancers. Meanwhile, Erik Haula has paced the Lancers registering 5 points (3 goals, 2 assists) despite only suiting up for three of the four games to this point in the season series.
Fargo enters USHL action this week having won four of its last five games overall while Omaha has garnered at least one standings point in each of its last nine straight contests posting a 7-0-2 record during that stretch. The Lancers continue to be lead by forward Matt White, who is currently second among all USHL skaters with 31 goals and 74 points on the season. Of White's 31 goals this season, eight have come shorthanded, which is now just one goal shy of the USHL record for shorthanded goals set by Mark Mowers during the 1993-94 campaign.
Doors open for tomorrow evening's Lancers games at 6 PM with the opening face off scheduled for 7:05 PM at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
