Omaha Lancers News Release

The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) prepare for their final two road games of the 2009-2010 regular season this weekend as they brace for a weekend series against the Indiana Ice. In a season largely focused on the Lancers' return to the city of the Omaha and the old school hockey atmosphere enjoyed at the Civic Auditorium, Omaha (35-12-4, 74 Pts.) has had tremendous success while skating away from their new home. With just a pair of regular season road games left to be played this weekend, the Lancers have already tallied a 20-5-3 road record this season. Entering USHL action this weekend, Omaha's 20 victories away from home are the most road wins of any team in the league and are four greater than the next most successful road team in the West Division, the Fargo Force. The Lancers final two road games of the season come out East this weekend as Omaha braces for its final two regular season tilts with the Indiana Ice. Indiana (30-17-2, 62 Pts.) is currently third in the East Division but enters USHL action this evening just three standings back of second-place Cedar Rapids. The Ice have won nine of their last 11 games overall and with just five regulation losses at home are tied with the Sioux Falls Stampede for the fewest defeats at home in regulation time in the USHL. Meanwhile, even though Omaha saw its six-game winning streak snapped in last Saturday's 5-4 shootout loss in Green Bay, the Lancers have still garnered at least one standings point in each of their last seven games overall while claiming seven of their last nine overall. Entering USHL action this weekend, Omaha currently sits four points up on second-place Fargo in the West Division standings.

NEWS & NOTES FOR THE WEEKEND

* With 20 road victories this season, the Omaha Lancers became the first USHL team in four years to register at least 20 wins away from home. The last team that recorded at least 20 wins on the road came during the 2005-06 season when the Sioux Falls Stampede registered 22 road victories.

* The Lancers success on the road has come at both ends of the ice. Omaha has scored a league-leading 107 goals on the road this season while surrendering the second-fewest goals-against in road contests this year (71).

* Omaha enters USHL action this weekend as the only team in the West Division and one of just two teams in the league (Waterloo is the other) to boast four 20-goal scorers. Matt White, Erik Haula, Seth Ambroz and Troy Power have all tallied at least 20 goals for the Lancers this season.

* With 29 goals this season, White is just one goal shy of becoming the first Lancer in the last four seasons and only the second over the last six years to register 30 goals in a season. The last Omaha skater to record at least 30 goals in a USHL campaign was Matt Schepke in 2005-06 when he tallied 37 goals.

* White currently leads all USHL skaters with 7 shorthanded goals this season and is only the second skater to tally that many shorthanded markers in a single season over the last 8 years. The USHL record for most shorthanded goals in a season is nine set by Mark Mowers of the Dubuque Fighting Saints during the 1993-94 season.

* Omaha and Indiana have split the first two meetings of the season series. The Lancers opened with a 6-0 win at the Civic Auditorium on Nov. 8th but the Ice responded with a 4-2 victory on Dec. 5th.
