Lancers Handle Ice, 4-1

The Lancers broke a two-game losing streak with a solid effort in a 4-1 victory over the Indiana Ice on Friday, December 15th at the Mid America Center. With the victory, the Lancers improved their record to 10-11-2, while the Ice dropped to 11-8-2 with the loss.

Scoring goals for the Lancers in this one were Robby Dee, Patrick Schafer, Corey Toy and Zac MacVoy.

Following a scoreless first period, Dee opened the scoring for the Lancers with his eighth goal of the year at the 16:41 mark of the second period, assisted by Mark Olver and Schafer.

In the third period, Schafer scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 1:55 mark, unassisted for a 2-0 lead. The score from the Schafer was his fifth of the campaign. Corey Toy made the score 3-0, Lancers, when his unassisted drive from the right point went past the Indiana goaltender at 12:33 for his second goal of the year. Following an Indiana goal nearly four minutes later, the Ice pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker while one man short on a Lancer power play, when MacVoy scored an empty-net, power play goal, unassisted, with 10 seconds remaining in the game for the final 4-1 score. The goal was MacVoy's fifth of the season.

Shots on goal for the game were 38-20 in favor of the Lancers, with 15 shots on goal coming in the third period of play. Omaha was 1-for-7 on the power play, while Indiana failed to score in six power play chances. The Lancers took eight penalties for 19 minutes, while Indiana was whistled down nine times for 21 minutes.

Drew Palmisano won his first game in net as a Lancer, and his first win since claiming Ohio's season-opening victory over Waterloo, with a 34 save performance. Palmisano's overall record improved to 2-6-3. Cody Reichard was tagged with the loss after a 34 save performance for Indiana.

The weekend series and the pre-Christmas portion of the Lancers' regular season schedule will conclude on Saturday, December 16th, when the teams meet again at the Mid America Center, beginning at 7 PM. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and the MAC Box Office.
