Omaha Lancers News Release
RALSTON, NE - With a sellout crowd of 3,762 fans looking on at Ralston Arena, the Omaha Lancers came up short in a 4-0 loss to the Lincoln Stars on Saturday. With the loss, the Lancers fell to 26-7-4 overall this season and with 56 points, remain alone atop the Western Conference and overall USHL standings.
Despite a rough-and-tumble start to the game, a mostly-scoreless first period's lone goal went in the Lincoln column as former Lancer Dominic Sacco scorched home an in-tight one-timer with just over three seconds left in the frame to make it 1-0 Stars.
In the middle stanza, controversy abounded at 11:25 when, despite a delayed penalty assessed to the Stars, Lincoln's Max Humitz was allowed to rifle a wrister past Omaha goaltender Cole Bruns for a 2-0 Stars lead. Then, in the period's final minute, Brandon Smith potted the third Lincoln goal at 19:24 to deliver the Stars a hefty 3-0 advantage entering the third period. An empty-net goal by Thomas Carey in the game's final minute capped the scoring for Lincoln, as the Stars emerged victorious by a 4-0 final score.
Next up for the Lancers, it's a Friday showdown at 7:05 pm vs. the Sioux City Musketeers at Ralston Arena on "Lancers Legends Night", presented by the Omaha Lancers Booster Club. Full coverage of Friday's game begins with the "Valpak Pregame Show" at 6:50 pm on the Lancers' flagship station, "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
