Omaha Lancers News Release
GREEN BAY, WI - In the second of back-to-back games at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the Omaha Lancers fell to the Green Bay Gamblers on Saturday by a final score of 5-2. With the loss, the Lancers fell to 34-10-5 overall this season and with 73 points, remain alone in first place in the Western Conference and overall USHL standings, one point ahead of the Waterloo Black Hawks.
The Gamblers came out guns-a-blazin' in the opening stanza, collecting a 1-0 lead on their first shot on goal of the game, an Evan Tironese tally at 5:04 that came at even strength. Newly minted assistant captain Luca Frigo responded for Omaha in short order, as the Minnesota State-Mankato recruit leveled the score at 8:16 on a power-play crank assisted by Steven Johnson and Jake Randolph. The Gamblers re-claimed their advantage at 2-1 midway through the first, however, as Dawson Cook tipped home a man-advantage marker at 11:59 to make it 2-1 Green Bay.
In the middle frame, a power-play goal from Randolph briefly tied the score for a second time at 1:47 with Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson and Johnson collecting helpers on the play. Green Bay surged back in front late in the frame though, as Ryan Lough streaked and scored on a shorthanded breakaway at 14:58 to make it 3-2 Green Bay. Lough's goal was just the second man-down marker the Lancers have allowed in the 2013-14 regular season.
In a tight-checking third, the Lancers' offense couldn't muster a breakthrough as final period tallies for Cook and Gavin Stoick delivered the Gamblers a 5-2 win and a split in the weekend series vs. Omaha.
Next up for the Lancers, it's the finale of a three-game road trip on Sunday at 3:05 pm vs. the Chicago Steel at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, Illinois. Full coverage of Sunday's game begins with the "Valpak Pregame Show" at 2:55 pm on the Lancers' flagship station, "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
