Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
ANN ARBOR, MI - Seamus Malone scored a pair of goals to help the Dubuque Fighting Saints earn a pair of critical points in the USHL's tight Eastern Conference standings. Dubuque topped Team USA U-17 5-3 Saturday evening at the Ice Cube in Ann Arbor. The Fighting Saints improved to 28-14-4 with the victory, and earned a point in the standings for the third consecutive game.
The Fighting Saints jumped out front of Team USA U-17 with a pair of goals in the game's opening frame. Karson Kuhlman notched his 18th goal of the season on the powerplay at 5:19. Jordan Klimek fired a pass to teammate Jarrid Privitera on the right wing. His shot was denied by the left pad of Lackey, but Privitera followed the rebound behind the net. He dished a pass to Kuhlman who backhanded a shot over a diving Lackey to make it 1-0 Dubuque.
Seven minutes later, Dubuque doubled its lead off a beautiful pass from Shane Eiserman. The former Team USA forward burned his old club, firing a pass from behind the goal right on the tape of Dylan Gambrell. The Fighting Saints forward wasted no time, one-timing a shot over Lackey's shoulder to make it 2-0 Dubuque at 12:35. Alexx Privitera also assisted on the goal.
Team USA U-17 would cut into Dubuque's lead in the second period. Luke Kirwan's snapshot from the left wing side snuck under Fighting Saints goaltender Kevin Reich's arm to make it 2-1 at 3:32 of the second period.
Dubuque responded with Malone's first goal of the evening. Robby Darrar advanced the puck to Malone at the Team USA blueline. He beat the defender for a partial breakway, flipping a backhander over the body of Lackey to make it 3-1 Dubuque at 16:14.
Team USA responded on a quick transition play that was finished by Jordan Greenway shortly after the Dubuque strike. Brendan Warren fired a pass to Greenway in the high slot and he made no mistake, firing a shot over Reich's glove to make it 3-2 less than a minute after Malone's goal.
In the third period, the Fighting Saints took advantage of a five-on-three powerplay. Captain Alexx Privitera scored the eventual game-winning goal with a pair of USA players in the penalty box. Dubuque's Kuhlman threw the puck back to Privitera in the high slot. He fired a low slapshot the beat Lackey and gave Dubuque a two-goal lead at 3:08.
Team USA would make things interesting, scoring an extra-attacker goal from Colin White with only 22 seconds left to make it 4-3 Dubuque. Off the ensuing faceoff, Dubuque's Malone scored into the empty net, giving Dubuque a much-needed victory.
Dubuque was 2-for-8 on the powerplay Saturday while Team USA was 0-for-4. The Fighting Saitns outshot Team USA U-17 35-20 on the evening.
