Lancers Drop the Buccaneers as the Battle for Home Ice Advantage Progresses

OMAHA, NE. - The Lancers kicked off their three game weekend tonight at home against the seventh place Des Moines Buccaneers.

The Lancers were looking for some confidence heading into another tough weekend of hockey as they have only scored one goal in each game over the course of their last seven matchups. Going 1-6-0-0 over that span. And with Des Moines having a 5-20-1-0 record on the road this season, now was the time to find some tempo in the offense.

The Lancers struck first in this one as Vincent Salice netted his eighth goal of the season on a one-timer off a feed from Tomas Trunda, giving Trunda his first point in the United States Hockey League in 32 games played. The Lancers had the 1-0 lead just 7:04 into the opening period.

After the scoring went silent for 12 minutes, Alex Bump got in on the scoring as he found the back of the net for the eighth time this season as well.

Morgan Winters picked up the loose puck in the defensive zone and found Jared Wright with the break out pass. Wright found Bump in the neutral zone who skated in and beat Des Moines goaltender, Remington Keopple short side to take the 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

The lone second period goal was scored by Lubomir Kupco on a very lucky bounce as he missed a slap shot high that bounced off a pane of glass, banked off Omaha goalie Kevin Pasche's back and into the net. Making it a 2-1 game through 40 minutes.

The third period was a great one for Omaha as Alex Bump picked up his second goal of the night on a backdoor one timer, with Wright and Winters on the assists yet again, giving them all multi-point nights and a 3-1 lead.

Just five minutes later, after a called off goal by Tomas Trunda for a high stick, Salice got going again with a redirection of his own off a shot from Nate Benoit to extend the Lancers' lead to 4-1 with 8:16 left on the clock. Giving Salice a two point night.

The secondary assist on that goal was picked up by Luke Baker in his United States Hockey League debut.

Right when the scoring looked like it was over for the night, Luke Strickland batted home a bouncing puck in the slot within a mosh pit of bodies to cap off a 5-1 victory and handing Trunda his second assist of the evening.

The Lancers lead over the Fargo Force extends to 11 points as the Lancers can clinch home ice advantage in tomorrow night's matchup (4/8) with a victory, if Fargo falls in regulation.

The Lancers will head to Lincoln tomorrow (4/8) to start a home-and-home series with the Stars. Puck is set to drop at 7:05PM CST at the Ice Box. That game will be covered on HockeyTV and Mixlr.
