Omaha Lancers News Release
RALSTON, NE - In the final game of the two teams' marathon, nine-game regular season series, the Omaha Lancers defeated the Tri-City Storm on Friday at Ralston Arena by a final score of 4-1. With the win, the Lancers improved to 26-6-4 overall this season and with 56 points, remain alone atop the Western Conference and overall USHL standings.
In an energetic first period for both teams, the Lancers broke the ice at 9:23 when Brian Williams scooped up a nifty setup from Louie Rowe and wired home his fourth goal of the season to make it 1-0 Lancers. In the second period, it was more of the same from Omaha's checkers as Rowe and Williams combined to set the table for Nash Worden, who nudged his third marker of the year through Tri-City goaltender Jacob Johansson at 13:30 to make it 2-0 Lancers. A late Garrett Gamez goal for the Storm spoiled the frame for the Lancers though, as the future Denver Pioneer's tally at 18:00 made it 2-1 Omaha entering the third.
In the final period, The Lancers got a big-time insurance marker at 3:36 when Ryan Tait wedged a sharp-angle offering to paydirt on feeds from Connor Light and Jimmy Schuldt. That score, in conjunction with an empty-net deal-sealer from Jake Randolph in the game's final minute, assisted by Tyler Vesel and Gage Hough, established Omaha's final margin of victory at 4-1.
With Friday's win, the Lancers finished their nine-game season series vs. the Storm with a 8-1-0 overall head-to-head record and courtesy of a 21 save performance on Friday, Lancers goaltender Hayden Hawkey improved to 10-1-0 overall this season and a perfect 6-0-0 vs. the Storm.
Next up for the Lancers, it's a Saturday clash with the Lincoln Stars on "Leap-for-a-Cure Night", presented by Methodist Health System with the opening faceoff set for 7:05 pm at Ralston Arena. Full coverage of Saturday's game begins with the "Valpak Pregame Show" at 6:50 pm on FASTHockey.com with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
