Omaha Lancers News Release
OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) have acquired defensemen Alec Rush in a trade with the Lincoln Stars. Rush, a 6'1", 205 pound defenseman from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, comes to Omaha in exchange for defenseman Austin Handley.
Rush, 19, will be suiting up for his third USHL team during the 2009-2010 season. After playing just six games with the Sioux Falls Stampede at the start of the season, Rush was moved to Lincoln where he registered two goals and seven points in 22 games with the Stars. Originally the 88th overall selection in the 2007 USHL Futures Draft by Tri-City, Rush broke into the league last season with the Storm recording a goal and 12 points in 46 games.
In exchange, Lincoln receives veteran defenseman Austin Handley. Handley, a 6'1", 205 pound defenseman from Clarkston, Michigan, played just six games for the Lancers after being acquired from the Des Moines Buccaneers back on December 29th. Handley did not register a point during his time in Omaha.
The Omaha Lancers return to action this Friday evening in a match-up between the two teams in the USHL as the West Division-leading Lancers welcome the East Division-leading Green Bay Gamblers to the Omaha Civic Auditorium. Green Bay has won 12 straight games and remains just one point up on Omaha in the overall USHL standings.
