Lance Allred to Hold Book Signing in Boise

BOISE, ID, July 27, 2009 - Idaho Stampede center Lance Allred is holding a book signing event on August 8th at A Novel Adventure in Downtown Boise.
Lance Allred officially became the first Stampede player in history to become a published author earlier this summer. His memoir, Longshot: The Adventures of a Deaf Fundamentalist Mormon Kid and His Journey To The NBA is available for purchase.
Allred started writing his memoirs while playing overseas, but never intended to pursue getting it published as a book. However, when he became the first hearing-impaired player to reach the NBA, his story became of interest to many people, including publisher HarperCollins.
"When I was overseas in Europe, I was having a pretty rough time," said Allred. "So I started writing it in France as a therapeutic means. I wasn't writing with the intent of getting it published, it was kind of more for posterity. So I started chronicling my life just so my kids and future generations could see what I went through."
He continued to put together his memoir during his time with the Idaho Stampede during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. The book ends when Lance earned an NBA call-up to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Spring of 2008.
Allred is currently on a tour across North America to promote his book. He will make his first promotional stop in Boise on August 8th at A Novel Adventure in Downtown Boise. The book signing begins at 11:00 a.m. MST. Fans are encouraged to come early as space is limited. Copies of Longshot will be available for purchase and will be signed by the author.
