Lancaster JetHawks News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Chase McDonald hit a three-run homer as part of a four-run fourth inning but the JetHawks were unable to score the rest of the way in an eventual 5-4, extra-inning defeat at Municipal Stadium in San Jose.

A Jeff Kobernus fly ball with the bases loaded and one out in the 11th inning scored John Polonius to give the Giants the victory. Brian Ragira led off the inning with a hit against Albert Minnis (1-3) and was bunted to second base. Minnis intentionally walked Ty Ross and then hit Brandon Bednar to load the bases. Polonius, who had replaced Ragira on the bases, easily scored on the fly ball to deep right field.

Ragira had tied the game, 4-4, in the sixth inning with a solo homer against Tyler Brunnemann.

Brunnemann replaced starter Daniel Mengden who tossed five innings and allowed three runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

After falling behind early, 2-0, the JetHawks (49-45) broke out for four runs in the fourth inning. Jamie Ritchie singled with one out and Derek Fisher followed with a walk before McDonald blasted his 16th home run of the season. J.D. Davis and Jacob Nottingham followed with singles to knock Giants starter Jose Reyes from the game. Ronnie Mitchell singled to drive home Davis against reliever Tyler Rogers. With the hit, Mitchell extended his hitting streak to 14 games.

James Ramsay reached second base with no outs in the 10th inning when left fielder Daniel Carbonell dropped a fly ball but the JetHawks were unable to bring him home. Ritchie sacrificed him to third before Fisher popped to second and McDonald struck out.

Andrew Walter threw 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit.

The Giants (46-48) have now won 12 of their last 13 games while Lancaster has dropped four in a row.

The finale of the four-game series is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. Akeem Bostick (1-2) will start against Ray Black (1-1).
