Lancaster JetHawks News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - Ronnie Mitchell got the JetHawks started on the right foot with a two-run triple in the first inning but 10 unanswered San Jose Giants runs resulted in a 10-2 loss on Tuesday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.
Mitchell's triple extended his hitting streak to 15 games, the third-longest streak for Lancaster (49-46) this season, but the loss also extended the club's losing streak to five. They finished the seven-game road trip with a 1-6 record and were swept in a four-game series for the first time on the road this season.
The JetHawks are now 1-11 at Municipal Stadium dating back to their first game in San Jose in 2013. The win gives the Giants (47-48) a victory in 13 of their last 14 games.
James Ramsay and Jamie Ritchie began the game by drawing walks against Giants starter Ray Black. Black proceeded to strikeout Derek Fisher and Chase McDonald but Mitchell blasted a fly ball high off the right field wall to bring home the runners.
Black was replaced by Luis Ysla (1-4) after the first inning and the left-handed reliever went on to toss five hitless innings with eight strikeouts.
Lancaster starter Akeem Bostick (1-3) allowed three softly hit singles to load the bases in the second inning before Brandon Bednar doubled in all three runs. Bostick would go on to allowe runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, finishing his afternoon with eight earned runs on his line, matching a career-high.
Brian Holberton's single with one out in the ninth inning was the club's second and final hit of the game. The two hits marks a new season-low.
The JetHawks return home to begin a seven-game homestand on Thursday, July 23 when the Stockton Ports visit for the first of a four-game series. Keegan Yuhl (3-0) makes the start for the JetHawks against Chris Lamb (0-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
