York Revolution News Release
York, Pa.- The Lancaster Barnstormers overwhelmed the York Revolution early, cruising to a 14-1 win on Friday night at PeoplesBank Park. The Barnstormers (8-14, 42-49) now take a 7-5 lead over the Revs (11-10, 51-40) in this season's War of the Roses presented by PNC Bank.
Sean Halton got things going for Lancaster with a three-run home run in the top of the first, setting the tone for the innings to come. Kevin Ahrens and K.C. Hobson left the yard in the second and third, respectively. In all, the Barnstormers scored in each of the first five innings, four of them multi-run frames.
The Revs got their run in the bottom of the sixth. Josh Wilson broke up a no-hitter with a single and Travis Witherspoon followed with a base knock of his own. After Ryde Rodriguez grounded into a 1-6-3 double play, Kevin Rivers smashed a liner off of starting pitcher Terry Doyle near his right collarbone for an RBI infield hit. Doyle came out of the game but was deemed okay in the clubhouse afterwards.
Doyle (5-5) earned the win for the Barnstormers with 5.2 innings of one-run, three-hit ball.
Tony Pena (5-6) allowed 11 runs on 14 hits in 4.1 innings for the loss. He has now lost six straight decisions and is seeking his first win since June 7.
Witherspoon had two hits for the Revs, while Rivers continued his hot start with his 17th RBI in 28 games for York.
On a night when every Lancaster starter had at least one hit, it was Hobson who stood out from the rest, going 4-for-5 with a home run, two runs, and four RBIs. Trayvon Robinson finished 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and three runs scored.
Caleb Gindl, Jeff Kobernus, Josh Bell, Ahrens, and Blake Gailen each had two hits as the Barnstormers racked up 19 on the night, the most against Revs pitching this season. York tied a season high by surrendering 14 runs.
Notes: Jared Mitchell was ejected in the bottom of the first inning for arguing a check swing call from the third base umpire. Benches cleared after an argument broke out between the teams in the middle of the seventh, but no ejections were issued. The Revs will look to get back on track on Saturday night as Micah Owings (3-4, 4.67) takes on Anthony Fernandez (0-1, 8.59) in the third game of the four-game series at 6:30 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:10 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Will DeBoer on the call. Saturday night is one of the busiest nights of the season at PeoplesBank Park. OSS Health is sponsoring a cooler bag giveaway to the first 1,000 fans, while it is also Bike Night presented by 1st Capital Harley-Davidson. Saturday also marks the return of Mad Chad the chainsaw juggler to York. The evening also features standard favorites Rost Brothers BBQ and postgame inside-the-park fireworks presented by the Pennsylvania Lottery.
