Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Jimmy Lambert tossed six hitless innings in his High-A debut, and Seby Zavala cranked a grand slam on the first pitch he saw in a Dash uniform as Winston-Salem cruised to a 4-2 victory over Buies Creek on Saturday evening at BB&T Ballpark.
Lambert (1-0), who went 7-2 with a 2.19 ERA for Low-A Kannapolis, did not allow a runner past second in his first start since being called up from the Intimidators. The former Fresno State Bulldog ultimately hurled six innings and 86 pitches, allowing five walks while striking out three batters.
The Astros (1-2, 38-35) broke the no-hitter in the seventh on a two-out single by Taylor Jones against Dash righty Mike Morrison, who went 1.1 innings in his first appearance with the Dash. Still, Winston-Salem (2-1, 26-47) posted its longest no-hit bid since James Dykstra spun a seven-inning no-hitter on April 13, 2015, at Potomac.
Meanwhile, Winston loaded the bases with one out in the first. Leading off the frame, Luis Basabe smacked a single to left against Astros starter Franklin Perez (3-2). Jameson Fisher followed by hitting into a fielder's choice, but the Dash promptly loaded the bases thanks to a Zack Collins single and a Telvin Nash walk.
On the next offering from Perez, Zavala smacked his first career grand slam, and Winston-Salem's first grand slam of 2017, an estimated 403 feet to left-center. The backstop, who also threw out a would-be base stealer on Saturday, has now hit 25 home runs during his time in the professional ranks, with 14 coming in his 53 games this year.
The Astros came through with their first run in the eighth on an RBI single from Yordan Alvarez, but Jake Johansen struck out Eduardo de Oleo to minimize the damage. Right-hander Jack Charleston allowed the final tally in the ninth before locking down his fifth save in as many opportunities.
#YourHomeTeam wraps up its four-game series at 2 p.m. on Sunday against the Astros. Winston-Salem will send Carolina League All-Star Tanner Banks (6-3, 3.24 ERA) to the bump against left-hander Ryan Hartman (0-2, 5.17 ERA). My 48 will televise the matchup locally in Winston-Salem, while play-by-play coverage is also available online at wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App.
