Soo Greyhounds News Release
The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club is pleased to announce that they have come to agreements with two Assistant Coaches, while extending the contract of Head Coach as well.
Earlier today, Greyhounds GM Dave Torrie announced that Head Coach DENNY LAMBERT has agreed to a two-year contract extension that will see him under contract to the club through the 2012-2013 Ontario Hockey League season.
"I'm pleased to extend Denny's contract with our club and to know that he will continue to lead our players' for another 3 seasons. Denny has continued to grow and improve as a hockey coach every year and we feel with his knowledge, passion, and work ethic he will continue to develop into an elite coach at the OHL level. He has done a great job mentoring and developing our players both on and off the ice, and we believe that under his leadership our team can accomplish great things the next 3 seasons" explained Torrie.
Lambert recently lead the Hounds to one of the largest turnarounds in OHL history. After finishing the 2008-09 season in 20th position with a 19-45-2-2 record, the Hounds made a 35-point improvement in 2009-10 to finish 5th in the OHL's Western Conference and obtain a birth in the post-season.
Additionally, the Hounds have announced that NICK WARRINER has agreed to a new two-year contract and will be joined by PAT CURCIO as the team's newest Assistant Coach.
"Nick has been a valuable member of our club the past 2 seasons and has shown tremendous growth as a young coach. He has built strong relationships with our players and has earned their respect through his work ethic and knowledge of the game. We are pleased he has committed to continue to be part of our organization for the next 2 seasons" commented Torrie.
Additionally the Greyhounds are very pleased to have PAT CURCIO join the organization with a one-year contract.
Curcio comes to the Hounds after spending the 2009-10 season as the Assistant Coach/Assistant Director of Hockey Operations with the Utah Grizzlies of the East Coast Hockey League. Recently the Toronto, ONT native spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the London Knights. (2007-08, 2008-09).
"Pat brings a lot of passion for the game of hockey and will be a tremendous asset to our coaching staff. Pat's past experience as a player and as an Assistant Coach, especially the two years he spent with the London Knights, have well prepared him for this opportunity" started GM Dave Torrie.
"Consistent with the rest of our hockey staff, Pat has tremendous knowledge, work ethic, and passion and will be a positive mentor to the Greyhound players. Pat has had success in his past endeavours and is devoted to becoming a successful hockey coach and believes that being part of our organization is going to help further his aspirations in the game of hockey" concluded Torrie.
Curcio played 8 combined seasons professionally between the East Coast Hockey League, Central Hockey League and while also spending time overseas in Italy and Germany.
Denny, Nick and Pat will be joined by their fellow coaches and staff when Training Camp 2010 opens on Saturday, August 28th with registration and off-ice testing.
