Lalli Accepts Assignment to Iowa

Des Moines, IA - Catcher/first baseman Blake Lalli cleared waivers and accepted his assignment to Iowa today. Infielder Nate Samson was placed on disabled list with a right ankle sprain today, retroactive to Aug. 24.

Lalli, who will be available tonight against the RedHawks, was designated for assignment by Chicago on Thursday. The 29-year-old is hitting .257 (76-for-296) with seven home runs and 40 RBI in 91 games with the I-Cubs this season. He has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games, boasting a .359 (19-for-53) batting average during the stretch and raising his season average from .240.

Lalli made his major league debut with the Cubs this season and holds a .133 (2-for-15) batting average through six games in the big leagues.

Samson is in his second stint with I-Cubs this year, spending the majority of the season with Double-A Tennessee. The 25-year-old is hitting .280 (14-for-50) in 19 games with Iowa and hit .271 (57-for-210) with two home runs and 14 RBI in 75 games with the Smokies on the year. Samson is hitting .370 (10-for-27) in 10 games since his promotion to Iowa on Aug. 11.

The Iowa Cubs and Oklahoma City RedHawks play game four of a five-game set tonight at Principal Park. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. and will be broadcast live on AM 940 beginning with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show at 6:45 p.m.
