Lakewood Takes Opener From Kannapolis 6-3

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws continued their hot streak as of late as they took the first of their 4 game series from the Kannapolis Intimidators 6-3 in Lakewood on Thursday. Phillies Reliever Brad Lidge threw a 1-2-3 top of the 1st for Lakewood, Miguel Alvarez hit his first Home Run as a BlueClaw, and Lakewood out hit Kannapolis 6-3 in the win.

Ervis Manzanillo allowed 4 hits and 3 runs over 5 innings to collect his 7th win of the year. Colby Shreve pitched a perfect 7th, and then Juan Sosa got through the 8th and the 9th to pick up his 10th save of 2011. Kannapolis starter Dexter Carter got the loss as he allowed 7 hits and 6 runs in just 4 innings.

It was a balanced effort offensively with 4 different guys picking up RBI's for Lakewood. The BlueClaws scored 5 times in the 4th inning including two big 2-RBI hits with 2 outs by both Carlos Perdomo and Edgar Duran. Duran, Zach Collier, and Travis Mattair all collected 2 hits in the game as well.

The BlueClaws will try for their 3rd straight win on Friday night in game 2 of the 4 game series vs Kannapolis. 7:05 pm with the First Pitch on Friday, and it will feature a pitching matchup of RHP David Buchanan (9-5, 3.73 ERA) for Lakewood and RHP Steven Upchurch (2-7, 4.29 ERA) for Kannapolis.
