Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ-Adrian Cardenas hit a 3-run home run in the 1st inning and Lakewood led the rest of the way en route to taking the middle game of 3 with Delmarva 9-7 at FirstEnergy Park.

Quintin Berry paced the offense from his leadoff spot in the lineup, going 3-4 with a walk, triple, RBI, and 2 stolen bases. Berry has now hit in 9 straight games overall, and 12 in a row at FirstEnergy Park. The 5th round pick of the Phillies last year is 17 for his last 37 at the plate.

Lakewood used 13 hits to improve to 26-23, while Delmarva falls to 21-29. The teams are 6-6 against each other this season.

Cardenas' homer was his 7th of the season and came off of Josh Tamba and gave Lakewood a 4-0 lead they would not relinquish. The Shorebirds cut multi-run leads to 1 on multiple occasions, including 2 unearned runs in the 2nd off of Edgar Garcia.

The BlueClaws blew it open again in the 4th when Berry had an RBI triple, and off of reliever Reid Hamblet, Cardenas had an RBI double and Jay Miller followed with a run-scoring single.

The biggest hit of the game came from Gus Milner, whose 3-run triple in the 6th put Lakewood up 9-5, and helped them fight off another Shorebirds rally. Delmarva had scored 3 runs in the top of the inning off of Garcia, though only 1 was earned.

Garcia (2-3) got his first win since April 6th, after allowing just 1 earned run (5 total) over 5.2 IP.

RJ Swindle, pitching in his 2nd game with the BlueClaws, got the final 4 outs for his first save.

Jay Miller was 3-5 in the game win an RBI. Cardenas drove in 4 and scored 3 times, and Donald had a hit, 2 walks, and scored twice.

The teams play the rubber game of their series Thursday night at 6:35. Andrew Cruse (0-4, 5.76 ERA) opposes 1st round pick Pedro Beato (0-0, 3.58) of Delmarva. You can hear the game on the Shore Sports Network (1160 WOBM-AM and 1310 WADB).

NOTE: Before the game, the BlueClaws sent RHP Jarrod Freeman (2-2, 5.87) to extended spring training.
