Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER, FL - The Hammerheads' offensive woes continued on Thursday and it led to the team's sixth straight loss. Jupiter managed just one run on five hits as Lakeland came away with a 3-1 victory.
The game had a promising start when Colin Moran reached on a one out walk in the first and advanced to third when a pickoff throw by Edgar De La Rosa was wild.
Moran would score when Matt Juengel grounded out to first.
The score would remain 1-0 until the third when Jeff McVaney crushed a 1-0 offering by Josh Hodges for a solo home run.
Hodges was pulled from the game following the fourth inning. He allowed just the one run on three hits. He struck out a season-high five on the afternoon.
The Flying Tigers would take the lead off of Blake Logan in the fifth inning. Chad Wright led off the frame with a double and was bunted over to third. McVaney would then give Lakeland the lead when he singled to right.
Lance Durham would follow with an opposite field single to left before Connor Harrell singled up the middle to plate McVaney and make it a 3-1 game.
The Hammerheads would have a couple of scoring opportunities but could not capitalize on them.
In the sixth Moran would hit a leadoff double before Juengel reached on an infield single. After a fly out, Ryan Rieger hit a liner to second and Moran was caught wandering off the bag as the Harold Castro turned an unassisted double play to end the inning.
Terrence Dayleg reached on a one-out single in the seventh and advanced to second when De La Rosa threw a wild pitch, but he would be stranded there when Ryan Goetz grounded out to end the inning.
The final scoring opportunity came in the eighth when the Sharks had runners on first and second with two outs but could not bring home a run.
Jupiter went down in order in the ninth as Alex Burgos earned his first save of the year.
De La Rosa picked up the win after he allowed just the one unearned run in seven innings.
Logan was handed his second defeat of the season.
The Hammerheads have been limited to just four runs in the first three games of the series and they will look to get the bats going in the series finale on Friday. Scott Lyman will take on Jake Thompson in that game. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
