Clearwater Threshers News Release

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Jeb Stefan held the Fort Myers Miracle to just an unearned run through six innings on Thursday, but the Clearwater Threshers could not solve Miracle lefty Jason Wheeler in a 3-0 loss.

Stefan (2-5) permitted only two hits - both of which were singles - and two walks in a season-high six frames.

The Miracle's lone run off Stefan came in the fourth inning. Travis Harrison had walked with one out, and moved to second on a wild pitch.

Dalton Hicks grounded out to short, allowing Harrison to advance to third. Tyler Grimes then reached on an error by shortstop Roman Quinn, which permitted Harrison to score the game's first run.

It remained a 1-0 ballgame until the seventh.

The Miracle (30-22) used a pair of walks to put runners on first and second with one out against reliever Dan Child, and Mike Gonzales drove a double to right-center to bring them both home and make it 3-0 Fort Myers.

After a third walk, Child gave way to Ramon Oviedo. Jorge Polanco drew a free pass to load the bases, but Oviedo induced a double play ball on the first pitch he threw to Aderling Mejia to limit the damage.

The Miracle would again load the bases thanks to a bevy of base on balls in the eighth inning. Lino Martinez then entered and got a big strikeout of Max Kepler, followed by a fly out to right from Gonzales to strand all three base runners.

Meanwhile, Wheeler (4-4) permitted only two hits and one walk in eight innings for the Miracle, retiring the final 14 men he faced.

The Threshers (11-40) will try to salvage the finale on Friday, with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. The call can be heard live on threshersbaseball.com starting at 6:15 p.m.

Friday will also be '70's Night at Bright House Field, featuring a post-game concert by Departure Band.
