Lake Monsters Cruise to Victory over CT Tigers

Burlington, VT - The Vermont Lake Monsters defeated the CT Tigers 5-1 Thursday night before 3,129 in attendance at Centennial Field.

In the bottom half of the first inning Lake Monsters SS Chad Pinder (1-3) hit a solo homerun to put Vermont in front 1-0. In the third inning following three consecutive walks Tigers RHP Hunter Scantling found himself in a bases loaded jam. 1B Michael Soto (2-3) hit a sacrifice fly that scored 2B Melvin Mercedes (0-3) to make the game 2-0. LF B.J. Boyd (1-3) scored on a wild pitch that put the Lake Monsters lead at 3-0. RF Kelvin Rojas (1-3) followed with a hard hit sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Pinder to take a 4-0 lead.

After C Austin Green (0-3) reached base by being hit by a pitch CF Austin Schotts (1-4) doubled him home to make the score (4-1). Following a two-out double by Soto, Rojas ripped him home on a single to centerfield to put Vermont in front 5-1.

The Tigers face Vermont in game two of the three game series with the Friday Night at 7:05 p.m. at Centennial Field. In game two of the series, Connecticut RHP Jonathon Crawford (0-0, 0.00) is slated to face off against Lake Monsters LHP Brent Powers (0-0, 0.00).
