NILES, OHIO --- The Vermont Lake Monsters used nine walks and four errors by Mahoning Valley in a 10-4 victory over the Scrappers in New York-Penn League action Saturday night at Eastwood Field.

Two walks in the fifth inning came around to score as the Lake Monsters score three times to tie the game at 3-3. Stephen King, Kevin Keyes and Wade Moore each had an RBI single in the inning. The Scrappers then committed three errors as the Vermont scored three unearned runs in a four-run sixth inning to take a 7-3 lead.

The Lake Monsters used three more walks in the seventh to score three runs on a Jack Walker RBI single, snapping an 0-for-22 slump, and a pair of RBI forceouts for a 10-3 lead. It marked the second straight game that Vermont scored 10 runs at Mahoning Valley and the third time all season.

Vermont starter Taylor Jordan retired the first seven batters he faced with four strikeouts, but got into trouble in the fourth as he allowed a two-out Giovhanny Urshela two-run double and a Carlos Montcrief RBI single to give Mahoning Valley a 3-0 lead.

After the Lake Monsters tied the game with the three-run fifth, reliever Mark Herrera (2-0) allowed just one hit with five strikeouts over three innings to earn the victory. Aaron Barrett made his professional debut for Vermont in the ninth inning with one walk and one strikeout in a scoreless inning.

Every Lake Monsters starter had at least one hit in the game except for Chad Mozingo, who walked three times and scored two runs. Stephen King was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Jaosn Martinson had two hits and Russell Moldenhauer added two RBI.

Reliever James Ehlert (0-3) was charged with six runs (three earned) on six hits in 1 2/3 innings to take the loss for Mahoning Valley (10-12), while Urshela had two of the Scrappers seven hits.

The victory improved Vermont (17-5) to 12 games over .500 for the first time this season as the Lake Monsters head to Pennsylvania for a three-game series against the State College Spikes beginning on Sunday.
