Saturday, July 10 - 6:00 p.m.
State College Spikes - Pittsburgh Pirates (11-10) @ Brooklyn Cyclones - New York Mets (12-9)
Game #22 / Road Game #11 LHP Zack Dodson (0-0, 4.30) vs. LHP Chris Hilliard (3-0, 3.52)
-SPIKES FINISH CITY TRIP: The State College Spikes finish their three-game road trip to Coney Island tonight with the third and final game of their series against the Brooklyn Cyclones at MCU Park. The Cyclones lead the all-time series, 10-4, and have won five of the eight games played between the two teams at MCU Park (formerly KeySpan Park). After maintaining a tie for first place in the Pinckney Division with the Jamestown Jammers for a five-day span, the Jammers moved ahead two nights ago with a win over Lowell.
-LAST GAME: The State College Spikes, behind a sterling pitching effort from Zack Von Rosenberg, put themselves within striking distance of the Brooklyn Cyclones on Friday night at MCU Park, but ultimately fell, 4-2. Von Rosenberg retired the first seven hitters he faced, and took a no-hitter into the fifth before Joe Bonfe's bunt single led to the first run of the game. Adalberto Santos went 2-for-3 with a run scored to extend his hitting streak to ten games and his on-base streak to 18 games. Although he took the loss, Von Rosenberg allowed the lone run on just two hits and a walk, striking out four over his career-long five innings of work.
-DODSON TOES THE RUBBER TONIGHT: Left-hander Zack Dodson gets the call tonight as the Spikes try to take a game from the Cyclones. Dodson, the Pirates' fourth-round draft pick in 2009, has not reached a decision in any of his first four starts of the year. Last time out, the Natalia, TX native pitched four shutout innings on the Fourth of July, striking out five Hudson Valley batters while allowing just two hits.
-BROOKLYN SENDS HILLIARD TO THE BUMP: The Cyclones will respond with left-hander Chris Hilliard on the mound. Hilliard earned the win in each of his first three starts, but went to a no-decision against Jamestown on the Fourth of July, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three over 5.1 innings of work.Following Hilliard, the Spikes may see a familiar face, as left-hander Nelson Pereira, who spent 2009 in State College, is in the Brooklyn bullpen.
