Lake Country DockHounds News Release

GETTING THE "WASHINGTONS": In last night's ball game, not a lot of exciting plays occurred on the offensive side of the ball. In fact, there were no extra-base hits by either team. Singles were the only form of offense, making it a small-ball type of night.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Jim Bennett calls on his 2022 all-star Alex McRae to take care of business on the defensive end for Lake Country this evening. With a 3-2 record, one might assume he is an average pitcher, but that is far from the reality. The right hander has the second lowest ERA in the American Association with a 2.66 mark and knows how to attack the strike zone.

McRae's last start came against Lincoln, where he gave up three earned runs through eight innings. While the Saltdogs put up 11 hits, it wasn't a pretty outing as they chased many pitches outside of the zone. McRae throws both four-seam and two-seam fastball, a cutter, a slider, and a changeup. Another neat fact about the DockHounds all-star is that he hasn't been pulled from a game in the middle of an inning all season.

Jhon Vargas will stake the hill for just his second start this season. Through 25 total pitching appearances, the 6-foot-3-inch pitcher has three winning-decisions through 31 innings. Vargas does give up more walks than your typical reliever would, walking hitters 21 times. His earned run average is a hair over 4 at 4.06.
