LA Galaxy News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Points to the Galaxy's 1-1 draw with Columbus Crew SC.
SEVERE WEATHER DELAYS GAME BY TWO PLUS HOURS
It may be time to call 2015 the year of stormy weather for the LA Galaxy.
Just moments after the conclusion of warm-ups, the game was postponed due to severe weather in the area. The delay sent the teams and the sell-out crowd at MAPFRE Stadium to find shelter as a lightning storm enveloped the area around the venue.
Due to the slow-moving storm, the game was ultimately delayed for two hours and 14 minutes.
TALE OF TWO HALVES IN COLUMBUS
The LA Galaxy put forth one of their strongest halves of the season in the first 45 minutes of their 1-1 draw with the Columbus Crew but were unable to hold on in the second stanza to snap their now 15-game winless streak away from StubHub Center.
After the delay, the Galaxy flew out of the gates, immediately putting the Crew under substantial pressure. Far more energetic than the home side, the Galaxy needed just 14 minutes to take the lead as Sebastian Lletget gave the visitors the lead. However, at the outset of the second half, it was the Crew who began to dominate the run of play with several dangerous forays into the attack.
In the 66th minute, an unlucky deflection off the boot of Leonardo allowed Ethan Finlay to get by the Galaxy defense, and then find Fedrico Higuain for the equalizer. Columbus came closest to breaking the deadlock in the dying minutes when Justin Meram's close range shot was saved by Penedo.
LLETGET OPENS HIS ACCOUNT FOR THE LA GALAXY
A lengthy weather delay forced Sebastian Lletget into the LA Galaxy lineup, but after his performance against Columbus Crew SC, the midfielder will have a hard time losing his spot.
Initially placed on the bench, Bruce Arena opted to insert Lletget in place of Edson Buddle who had been penned to start. Lletget immediately awarded Arena for giving him his first start for the Galaxy as the 22-year-old was active in pressing the Crew SC defense. Lletget finally broke through in the 14th minute with a lovely move off a deflection off Robbie Rogers for his first goal for the Galaxy.
Lletget continued his dangerous play with several dangerous runs until being substituted in favor of Alan Gordon in the 84th minute. With a strong showing in his first start, Lletget is likely to play a greater role for the Galaxy heading into the congested summer months.
