LA Galaxy II News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Friday, May 16, 2014) - LA Galaxy II (5-1-3, 18 points) head north to take on Sacramento Republic FC (3-3-1, 10 points) in USL PRO Week 9 at Hughes Stadium in Sacramento, Calif. on Saturday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. PT. All of the action will be streamed live via lagalaxy.com.
LA Galaxy II extended their unbeaten streak to five games in USL PRO after earning a 1-1 draw with the Dayton Dutch Lions last Saturday evening. Chandler Hoffman scored his fifth goal of the team's USL PRO campaign, but a penalty kick goal by Dayton's Aaron Schoenfeld helped the Dutch Lions earn a point at the unveiling of their new home DOC Stadium. With the result, Los Dos are now in second place in USL PRO, just three points behind Orlando City Soccer Club.
For his role in LA's results in Week 8 of USL PRO action, Galaxy forward Chandler Hoffman was named USL PRO Player of the Week after he recorded two goals in two games while helping his side take four points from the last two games. Galaxy II defender Kyle Venter joined Hoffman on the USL PRO Team of the Week after a solid outing against Dayton last Saturday. Hoffman's honor is the second time that a Galaxy player has been named to USL PRO player of the Week and the ninth time that any Galaxy II player has made the USL PRO Team of the Week list.
Saturday's match against Sacramento will mark the third time that Galaxy II will face off against their Northern California rivals. Los Dos' lone loss this season came at the hands of Sacramento Republic in a 3-0 loss on April 13. In that meeting, Mickey Daly, Max Alvarez and Dakota Collins all scored for Sacramento.
In their first ever meeting this season on, March 29, Los Dos earned a point in a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Sacramento in Carson. Hoffman equalized for the home side in the 81st minute after an assist from Galaxy Homegrown Player Raul Mendiola to give the Galaxy a late draw.
Republic FC enter the match with a 3-3-1 record in USL PRO after claiming its first home win of the season as they grabbed a 2-1 victory against the visiting Orange County Blues FC in front of 17,414 at Hughes Stadium on Saturday night. Sacramento currently sit in sixth place of the USL PRO standings with ten points.
Both Galaxy II and Sacramento are coming off wins in U.S. Open Cup second round action on Wednesday.
Galaxy II earned a 6-1 victory over U.S. Adult Soccer Association club Cal FC to advance in their U.S. Open Cup second round match at the StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium. Travis Bowen tallied a brace while Alejandro Covarrubias, Bradley Diallo and Jack McBean all found the back of the net. Forward Raymundo Reza tallied the lone goal for Cal FC. With the victory, Galaxy II will now play PSA Elite in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup on May 28 at StubHub Center's Track and Field Stadium at 7:30 PM PT.
