Sacramento Set for Galaxy II's Visit
Published on May 16, 2014 under United Soccer League Championship (USL) News Release
TAMPA, Fla. - Sacramento Republic FC appears set to welcome its second crowd of more than 20,000 fans to Hughes Stadium this Saturday night as it hosts the LA Galaxy II in a marquee matchup that highlights the USL PRO schedule this weekend. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT, with all of the action available live on YouTube.
Republic FC handed the Galaxy II a 3-0 defeat in the first meeting between the two teams last month, as goals by Mickey Daly, Max Alvarez and Thomas Stewart earned victory. It was the Galaxy II's only loss of the season to date, and after a 6-1 win in midweek against Cal FC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, Los Dos will likely be aiming to exact some revenge.
The weekend's action kicks off on Friday night as OKC Energy FC hosts the Richmond Kickers at Pribil Stadium looking for its first home win in its inaugural season. Both teams are coming off midweek road wins in the U.S. Open Cup, but the Energy defense will have its hands full trying to contain a Kickers' attack that is tied for the league lead with 18 goals.
Saturday brings a full day of action, with a matinee between the Harrisburg City Islanders and Dayton Dutch Lions set for the Skyline Sports Complex at 2 p.m. ET. The evening brings the conclusion of a home-and-home series between the Wilmington Hammerheads and Charleston Battery at Legion Stadium, with the Hammerheads looking to add to their 1-0 win last Saturday night in Charleston.
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Rochester Rhinos also square off at Highmark Stadium with the Riverhounds looking for their first win in league play after claiming victory in the Open Cup in midweek. Later in the night, Arizona United SC hosts Orlando City SC at the Peoria Sports Complex looking to continue its strong start to its inaugural season as it tries to hand the Lions their first loss.
The weekend concludes with a pair of interleague contests as the Orange County Blues FC visit the Seattle Sounders Reserves at 4 p.m. ET at Starfire Stadium, and the Kickers conclude their Midwest road trip with a visit to the Chicago Fire Reserves at 5:30 p.m. at Toyota Stadium.
