IRVINE, Calif. - Continuing their 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup campaign in the Round of 32, the LA Galaxy advanced to the Round of 16 with a 3-2 win on the road over NISA (National Independent Soccer Association) side California United Strikers FC at Championship Soccer Stadium on Wednesday night. Dejan Joveljić registered a brace, including the game-winning goal, while Owen Lambe tallied his first career goal in his debut for the Galaxy.
Open Cup Run
In their first-ever matchup against Cal United in the Round of 32 of the U.S. Open Cup, the Galaxy advanced to the Round of 16 of the tournament. With the win over the Strikers, LA improved to 35-17-0 in 52 all-time U.S. Open Cup matches. The Galaxy will learn who their next opponent is in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 Draw on Thursday, May 12 at 5:30 p.m. PT on Fútbol Americas on ESPN+.
LA Galaxy Academy & Los Dos Products
Nine LA Galaxy players with ties to the LA Galaxy Academy and LA Galaxy II appeared in the match against California United Strikers FC. Lambe, on a short-term loan from Los Dos, started and played 90 minutes in his LA Galaxy debut. Three LA Galaxy Academy products started in the win over Cal United: Efraín Álvarez, Julián Araujo and Jonathan Pérez. Notably, LA Galaxy Academy products Jalen Neal, who made his LA Galaxy debut, and Cameron Dunbar both made their first appearance of the 2022 campaign as second-half substitutes.

CAL - Shinya Kadono (Tony Lopez), 19th minute: Tony Lopez slipped Shinya Kadono in behind the Galaxy backline and Kadono's low shot found the back of the net.
LA - Dejan Joveljić (Penalty Kick), 45th minute: After being fouled inside the penalty area, Dejan Joveljić stepped up to the spot and struck a low shot into the bottom right corner of the net.
LA - Owen Lambe (Efraín Álvarez), 80th minute: Working down the right flank, Efraín Álvarez crossed the ball down the left side of the penalty area to Owen Lambe, who calmly slotted his low shot past Strikers goalkeeper Jean Antoine.
LA - Dejan Joveljić (Penalty Kick), 83rd minute: After Kévin Cabral earned a foul inside the 18-yard box, Joveljić stepped up to the penalty area and drilled a low shot to the bottom left corner of the goal.
CAL - Kevin Garcia-Lopez (Felipe Liborio), 87th minute: Felipe Liborio delivered a cross into the box that Kevin Garcia-Lopez chested down and converted from close range.
