
La Fiera Extend Win Streak in Overtime

HIDALGO, Texas - Edgar Flores scored the game winning goal in overtime to extend Hidalgo La Fiera win streak to six games defeating Monterrey Flash by a final score of 5-4 on Sunday night at State Farm Arena.
With the victory, Hidalgo and Monterrey are top of the Central Division of the Professional Arena Soccer League with a half game separating the teams. Monterrey was undefeated at seven wins and no losses until tonight's loss.
Hidalgo (6-1) score the first goal of the game in the first quarter on a power play when Damian Garcia slotted home a Joel Perez pass to give them a 1-0 lead. It would be Garcia's eighth goal of the season.
La Fiera padded its lead in the second quarter when Carlos Farias scored his fifth goal on the season on a penalty shot that gave them a 2-0 lead which would be the halftime score.
Monterrey (7-1) trimmed the lead at beginning of the third quarter when Erick Tovar score from a pass from Gustavo Rosales on a power play to make it a 2-1 game.
Hidalgo restored its two goal lead when Erick Flores scored on an Edgar Flores pass to make it 3-1 in favor of the Fiera.
The Flash would trim the deficit once again when Carlos Pichardo scored on a Rosales pass to make it a 3-2 game.
Hidalgo scored a power play goal to give them their two goal lead once again when Robson De Souza scored on an Armando Teran pass to make it 4-2 in the fourth quarter.
Monterrey would score two goals in the fourth quarter highlighted by a power play goal by Lourenco Andrade to tie the game at four a piece. The first goal in the four quarter was scored by Pichardo assisted by Jose Luis Birche.
In the overtime period La Fiera Midfielder Edgar Flores scored on a breakaway goal to end the game at 5-4 giving them the narrow victory. La Fiera went 2-for-5 on the power play while Monterrey went 2-for-3 on the night.
Goal keeper and Brownsville native Juan Gamboa earned his sixth victory of the season playing all 60 minutes and the overtime session while making 11 saves.
The next game for Hidalgo La Fiera is on Sunday, December 29th when they host the Dallas Sidekicks at State Farm Arena with the kickoff set for 5:05 pm.
