La Crosse to Host IFL Kickoff Classic

La Crosse, WI: The much-anticipated second season of the La Crosse Spartans will begin February 19, 2011, in the IFL's showcase game, the Kickoff Classic. La Crosse will take on the Chicago Slaughter, a team they defeated twice last season, in the league's first game of the 2011 season at the La Crosse Center. La Crosse will play seven regular season games at home over the course of February through early June.
Year two of the Spartans' home schedule includes a St. Patrick's Day matchup against another second-year franchise, the Kent Predators, who are now coached by former two-time IFL Champion Billings Outlaws head-man Heron O'Neal. The Nebraska Danger, an expansion franchise from Grand Island, Nebraska, visits the Center on April 2 followed by the Bloomington Extreme on April 22. The month of April rounds out with another expansion team, the Lehigh Valley Steel Hawks on April 30.
Last year's division champion Green Bay Blizzard makes its way to town on May 27, with the Spartans 2011 regular season ending on June 11 at home against Lehigh Valley once again. La Crosse, Chicago, Green Bay, and Bloomington will once again be division rivals in what is now called the Great Lakes division of the United Conference.
A few tough road tests will mark the Spartans' travels this season. In addition to visiting division foes on the road one time each, the Spartans will travel to Sioux Falls to face the Storm, the reigning United Conference champions. The Spartans also travel to Omaha, Nebraska, and Richmond, Virginia, to round out their road schedule.
The Spartans, entering their second season in the Indoor Football League, were named the 2010 IFL Community Relations Franchise of the Year for their efforts in the community this past season.
