LOS ANGELES GALAXY RETURN TO THE TRAINING PITCH AFTER ONE-WEEK HIATUS: After not training during the week leading up to MLS Cup 2004 (won by D.C. United 3-2 on Sunday Nov. 14), the Los Angeles Galaxy return to the fields outside The Home Depot Center for an intense practice regimen. Steve Sampson's team will train Monday thru Friday this week (see details below) before returning next Monday for a shortened week in anticipation of the Thanksgiving Holiday.
GUILLERMO GONZALEZ CALLED INTO U.S. UNDER-20 NATIONAL SIDE FOR TRAINING CAMP: Galaxy midfielder Guillermo Gonzalez has been called into the U.S. Under-20 national team for a training camp that begins today and runs until Monday, November 22 in Sunrise, Florida. The U.S. side will play two matches during the week, facing off with CONCACAF rivals Honduras on November 19 and Mexico two days later, both at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. Gonzalez was last with the U-20's for the Busan Four Nations International Tournament in Korea Republic in late June. The U.S. is in Group A of the CONCACAF Under-20 Final Round Qualifying Tournament - to be played at The Home Depot Center in January, 2005 - along with Costa Rica, Panama and the winner of the Caribbean Zone Series 1 between Trinidad & Tobago and Cuba.
2005 EXPANSION DRAFT THIS FRIDAY LIVE ON ESPNEWS - LIST OF PROTECTED PLAYERS MADE
PUBLIC ON WEDNESDAY: Major League Soccer's two newest expansion teams, Real Salt
Lake and Club Deportivo Chivas USA, who will enter play in 2005, will get their
first chance to begin stocking their rosters this Friday in the 2005 MLS Expansion
Draft. The MLS Expansion Draft will be televised live at 1pm PT on ESPNEWS. MLS' ten
current clubs, including the Galaxy, are allowed to protect 12 senior roster players
and may pull back one unprotected player for each one chosen by either Real Salt
Lake or CD Chivas USA. For more on the 2005 MLS Expansion Draft rules, visit
www.MLSnet.com FOUNDATIONS' FEAST TO SERVE "THANKSGIVING DINNER" TO CHILDREN NEXT MONDAY AT THE
HOME DEPOT CENTER: The Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation will partner with The Home
Depot Center Charitable Foundation and several of their corporate partners to serve
a Thanksgiving Dinner the week of Thanksgiving to more than 200 children from
organizations that service abused women and children as well as children who have
been abandoned and or live in group homes or with foster families from Carson and
the surrounding areas. The second annual "Foundations' Feast" will take place on
Monday, November 22 at 4:30 pm at The Home Depot Center Stadium Club (doors open and
seating will begin at 4:00). Several L.A. Galaxy players will be on hand to help
serve the meal and sign autographs for the children. Did you know ... Former Galaxy player Danny Pena was the first player taken in the
1997 MLS Expansion Draft? Pena, selected by the Chicago Fire, was one of three
Galaxy players chosen in that draft, alongside Kevin Hartman and Brian Taylor.
