LA Galaxy News Release
LEWIS, THOMPSON TO FIND OUT THEIR FATE TOMORROW: Galaxy defenders Ricky Lewis and Scot Thompson both recently wrapped up a training camp at The Home Depot Center with the U.S. Under-23 National Team. They will find out tomorrow from U.S. Head Coach Glenn "Mooch" Myernick if they will be among 22 players traveling with the team to Mexico on Thursday for a final training camp as they prepare for CONCACAF Qualifying to the Olympic Football Tournament Athens 2004. Myernick will then choose his final qualifying roster of 20 players from those making the trip to Mexico for the camp. The qualifying tournament will be played in two venues, Estadio Jalisco and Estadio Tres de Marzo, in Guadalajara, Mexico, from February 2-12, 2004. The eight teams competing for continental bragging rights will be divided into two groups of four teams apiece, with the USA, Canada, Honduras and Panama fighting it out in Group A, and the hosts, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago battling for supremacy in Group B. The top two finishers in each group at the conclusion of the round-robin phase will qualify to the semifinals. The two semifinal winners will then meet in the final, with both already having booked the two places available to CONCACAF in Athens.
ALBRIGHT SHINES FOR USA IN 1-1 WITH DENMARK AT THE HOME DEPOT CENTER: Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Chris Albright was a bright spot for the U.S. Men's National Team Sunday as they made their debut at The Home Depot Center in 1-1 tie vs. European side Denmark. Albright, playing in an unfamiliar right defensive position for Bruce Arena's side, impressed many onlookers with his play, earning the start and logging 79 minutes before being replaced by Frankie Hejduk and leaving the pitch to a standing ovation from his hometown fans. The cap for Albright was the eighth of his career and first since 2001.
