PASADENA, CA (Wednesday, August 14, 2002) - The Los Angeles Galaxy named forward McKinley Tennyson as a developmental replacement player today announced Galaxy VP/GM Doug Hamilton. Tennyson, who currently plays with the Portland Timbers of the A-League, will join the Galaxy following the end of the A-League's season.

Tennyson will replace Project-40 forward Isaias Bardales Jr., who is out due to a season ending knee injury suffered in pre-season. The Galaxy acquired the rights to Tennyson in a trade with the Columbus Crew in exchange for a conditional 2002 MLS SuperDraft pick on August 15, 2001.

"We look forward to having McKinley Tennyson as another option off the bench as we begin our final run to the MLS Playoffs," said Hamilton. "His time in the A-League and on the field has served him well to prepare him for this opportunity."

In his first A-League season, Tennyson leads the league and the Timbers in scoring with 17 goals and three assists for 37 points. The 6-2, 189 pound forward has played in 20 games, amassing 1,490 minutes on the pitch. He earned his fourth "Player of the Week" nomination in five weeks on Tuesday. Tennyson, 23, is also riding an impressive scoring streak with at least two goals in seven of the last eight games, including a four-goal performance last night vs. the El Paso Patriots.

One of the most prolific scorers in UCLA history, Tennyson finished his career as the ninth leading scorer in school history with 102 points, and second in multiple goal games with eight. He finished fourth in voting for the Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Player of the Year in addition to being a candidate for the Hermann Trophy. Tennyson appeared in four consecutive NCAA Tournaments with the Bruins, which included a National Championship in 1997 and another trip to the College Cup Semifinals in 1999. A member of the United States Under-20 National Team, Tennyson made 16 appearances while netting three goals and four assists.

Up next, the Los Angeles Galaxy is in Columbus tonight to take on the Crew at 4:30 pm (PT) at Columbus Crew Stadium. Galaxy fans can tune in live over the airwaves on KTNQ 1020 AM (Spanish), and again at 7:00 pm for a tape delayed broadcast on ESPN Radio 1110 AM (English).
