Los Angeles Avengers News Release
LOS ANGELES -- Continuing their quest to improve in the defensive backfield, the Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League have signed NFL veteran Jason Moore, head coach Ed Hodgkiss announced today.
Moore (5-foot-10, 205 pounds), who has played with six NFL teams since starting his professional career with the Denver Broncos in 1999, will be a defensive specialist with the Avengers. He has 23 games of NFL experience and was most recently with the Cleveland Browns during their 2003 training camp. In 2002, Moore played in a career-high nine games as a safety with the San Francisco 49ers.
In their last game, the Avengers played without both of the defensive specialists they began the season with. Damen Wheeler remains out of action for at least another week while on the injured reserve list with a hamstring pull and Cornelius Coe is no longer with the team after being indicted in federal court last week, in conjunction with an investigation in Michigan.
After attending Pacific High School in San Bernardino, Calif., Moore was a four-year starter at San Diego State University, where he finished his career with 328 tackles and 13 interceptions as a free safety and cornerback.
Born on Jan. 15, 1976, Moore resides in Aurora, Colo., in the offseason with his wife, Josetta, and their two children.
He will make his Avenger debut on Monday, March 1, when the Georgia Force pay a visit to STAPLES Center. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on Fox Sports Net 2.
In another move executed by the Avengers on Friday, rookie offensive/defensive lineman Ryan Nielsen was signed to the active roster from the practice squad. He was a three-year starter along the defensive line at the University of Southern California. Nielsen, an All-Pacific-10 Conference honorable mention selection as a senior in 2001, concluded his Trojan career with 107 tackles (including 15 for losses of 59 yards), eight pass deflections and six quarterback sacks.
Season ticket packages and single-game seats can be purchased by calling 1-888-AVENGERS or online at www.laavengers.com.
