Columbus Destroyers News Release
COLUMBUS, OH â The Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League have signed offensive specialist Thomie Venisee to the active roster, the team announced today. In addition, the Destroyers have signed defensive specialist Lavar Glover to the team's practice squad.
Venisee joins the Destroyers after spending last season with the Hamburg Blue Devils of the German Football League. His first professional catch went for a 51-yard touchdown reception, which is a GFL record. Venisee went on to finish second on the team in kick returns and kick return yards, while finishing third in receptions and receiving yards despite missing a portion of the season due to injury.
Venisee was a three-year starter at Troy State University, who he helped to two Southland Conference Championships before ending his college career at Alabama State University in 2002.
Glover was a seventh round selection by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2002 NFL Draft. After being waived during training camp, Glover was claimed by the Cincinnati Bengals where he finished the preseason and was singed to the practice squad. He also spent time with the Detroit Lions before entering the AFL this season. Glover started every game as a junior and senior for the University of Cincinnati during the 2000 and 2001 seasons after walking on as a freshman in 1997. He started 24 of 46 games played in his career at Cincinnati. Glover finished his collegiate career with 105 tackles (87 solos), two interceptions and four fumble recoveries.
In other personnel moves, the Destroyers singed wide receiver/linebacker Corey Hill from the practice squad, signed quarterback Matt D'Orazio to the practice squad while activating wide receiver/defensive back Ryan Sloth from injured reserve.
The Destroyers return to action on Sunday when the team plays host to the Dallas Desperados at Nationwide Arena. Kickoff is slated for 3 pm with all of the action set to air live on NBC Sports.
