
John Elway to appear as AFL on NBC guest studio analyst

NEW YORK - Feb. 19, 2004 - NBC Sports kicks off this Sunday's AFL five-game regional coverage at 3 p.m. ET (Feb. 29) with the TelePrompTer-free studio show featuring guest analyst John Elway, the NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback and Colorado CEO and part-owner. Additionally, Philadelphia franchise owner Jon Bon Jovi will wear an NBC microphone and interact with the broadcast booth at the game, as well as Elway in the studio during halftime, as his team visits Tampa Bay.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to talk Arena Football on NBC this Sunday," said Elway. "There are some great match-ups on the schedule this weekend and it should be a lot of fun. It's a great game that I think has a really big future and I'm glad to do anything I can to promote it."
Elway will join studio host Al Trautwig and analyst Glenn Parker for a preview of Sunday's match-ups, halftime game updates and post game wrap-up interviews. Elway is the second in a series of rotating guest analysts. Pittsburgh Steelers and former AFL quarterback Tommy Maddox appeared in-studio last week.
NBC's regional coverage is highlighted by the lead game between Jon Bon Jovi's Philadelphia expansion franchise (1-2) and Tampa Bay (1-2) at the St. Pete Times Forum. NBC's Bob Papa (play-by-play), Ray Bentley (analyst) and J.P. Peterson (sideline reporter) from WFLA-TV in Tampa Bay have the call.
NBC's other AFL regional games include: New York (1-2) facing Arizona (1-2) at America West Arena: Tom Hammond (play-by-play), Pat Haden (analyst) and Lewis Johnson (sideline reporter) will broadcast the game.
Undefeated Chicago (3-0) @ Indiana (0-3): NBC's Eli Gold (play-by-play), Charles Davis (analyst) and Dave Calabro (sideline reporter) from WTHR-TV in Indianapolis.
Dallas (2-1) takes on Columbus (1-2): Allen Bestwick (play-by-play), Mike Pawlawski (analyst) and Dave Maetzold (sideline reporter) from WCMH-TV in Columbus.
Undefeated New Orleans (3-0) @ Las Vegas (1-2): Bill Weber (play-by-play), Pat Sperduto (analyst) and Mitch Roberts (sideline reporter) from KVBC-TV in Las Vegas.
