Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES -- Doug Lytle, a massive 6-foot-3, 300-pound center/nose guard with four years of experience in the Arena Football League, was acquired by the Los Angeles Avengers in today's 2004 Expansion Draft.

The Avengers selected Lytle with the 10th overall pick, which they received in a trade with the New Orleans VooDoo for future considerations.

"You can't get enough centers in this league and Doug is a good one who has started a lot of games," said head coach Ed Hodgkiss, who led the Avengers to an 11-5 record and No. 4 playoff seed last season in his second year with the club. "Center is one of the most important positions on the team ... that's where it all starts for the offense. And on the other side of the ball, Doug has also shown an ability to make plays on defense. He's a hard worker and a man of great character. We feel fortunate to have been able to get into the draft and pick up a player of Doug's caliber."

Lytle played in 15 games for the Dallas Desperados last season. He began his AFL career in 2000, playing two seasons with the Milwaukee Mustangs. Prior to his third season in the AFL, Lytle was selected by the Toronto Phantoms with the ninth pick of the 2002 Dispersal Draft.

In his 52-game AFL career, Lytle has 42.5 tackles (seven for losses), three quarterback sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception.

Lytle was a two-sport star at Chadron (Neb.) State College, participating on the football and track & field teams. He set Eagle records in the shot put, discus and 35-pound weight toss in 1998. In addition, Lytle finished fifth in the shot put and 35-pound weight toss at the 1998 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships and earned All-America honors five times (indoors and outdoors).

Born on Nov. 23, 1974, Lytle went to Niobrara County High School in Lusk, Wyo., where he still spends his offseasons, working on a ranch and as a substitute teacher.

Avenger season tickets for the 2004 campaign, which begins in February, are now on sale and can be purchased by calling 1-888-AVENGERS or online at www.laavengers.com.
