Chicago Rush News Release

October 8, 2003 – The Chicago Rush lost two key players Wednesday when lineman Tony Bowick and defensive specialist Marvin Taylor were selected in the Arena Football League's expansion draft.

The Austin Wranglers made Bowick the sixth overall pick when they selected him in the second round, while Taylor was selected in the third round (8th overall) by Jon Bon Jovi's Philadelphia Soul.

"Its tough when you lose quality players," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "But when expansion teams enter the league everybody is going to lose somebody."

Both players were integral members of the Rush team during the 2002 and 2003 seasons. Bowick, an 11-year veteran, joined the Rush as a free agent after winning the 2001 ArenaBowl as a member of the Grand Rapids Rampage. Upon his arrival he became one of the team's leaders both on the field and in the locker room. Bowick played in 30 games for the Rush, recording 22 tackles and one sack.

Taylor was a rookie with the Rush during the 2002 season. After beginning the season on the team's practice squad, Taylor earned a roster spot and, eventually, the starting defensive specialist position. In 23 career games he recorded 78 tackles, five interceptions and 16 passes defended.

Training camp for next season will open in January 2004 with the regular season scheduled to begin the first weekend in February.
